Eggs
We offer both fresh eating eggs and fertile hatching eggs when available. Our eating eggs are sold unwashed, which leaves their natural protective bloom intact. For the best freshness, we recommend refrigerating them after purchase, where they can typically maintain good quality for several weeks.
Fertile hatching eggs are sold specifically for incubation and should be stored differently until they are ready to be set.
No. Eggs sold as eating eggs are not sold or guaranteed as fertile. Eggs specifically listed as fertile hatching eggs come from designated breeding groups with roosters.
No. We cannot guarantee fertility or hatch rates because successful hatching depends on many factors, including storage, handling, incubator temperature, humidity, and individual embryo development.
Successful hatching comes down to keeping your incubator conditions as consistent as possible.
For chicken eggs, maintain a temperature around 99.5–100°F in a forced-air incubator, monitor humidity carefully, and turn the eggs regularly through day 18.
On day 18, stop turning the eggs, increase humidity, and avoid opening the incubator unnecessarily until the hatch is complete. Most chicken eggs hatch around day 21.
We also recommend using a reliable thermometer and hygrometer, keeping your incubator clean, and following the instructions provided with your specific incubator. Even with perfectly fertile eggs, hatch rates can vary, so don’t be discouraged if every egg does not hatch, each incubation is a learning experience!
For the best chance of a successful hatch, we recommend setting your fertile eggs in the incubator as soon as possible after pickup, ideally within a few days. If you need to wait, store them in a cool, stable location away from direct sunlight and do not refrigerate them. Hatchability generally decreases the longer fertile eggs are stored, especially after about a week.
Chicks
We offer chicks throughout the year when available, but breeds and quantities change seasonally. Check IzaaksHappyHens.com for our current availability and upcoming batches.
We offer both vaccinated and unvaccinated chicks, with different options available depending on the breed and batch. Some chicks may receive the Marek’s vaccine. Vaccination details will be included in the product listing whenever available.
Chicks should be fed a quality chick starter feed formulated specifically for growing birds.
Fresh, clean water should always be available. Avoid switching to adult layer feed while chicks are still young.
We use DuMOR 20% Chick Starter Crumbled Chicken Feed
Yes. Young chicks need supplemental warmth until they are fully feathered and able to regulate their body temperature. A properly set up brooder with a safe heat source, food, water, and enough space to move away from the heat is essential.
Our breeds change throughout the year and may include colorful egg layers, heritage breeds, Marans, Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, Cream Legbars, and other backyard favorites. Visit our website for currently available breeds.
Chicks listed as sexed female chicks have been professionally sexed, but chick sexing is not 100% accurate and an occasional cockerel is possible.
Straight-run chicks may be either male or female.
Pullets
A started pullet is a young female chicken that has moved past the fragile baby chick stage. Our pullets are typically sold around 6–8 weeks old, fully feathered, and ready to continue growing in their new home.
Yes. Our pullets are raised outdoors and acclimated to Arizona conditions before pickup. They still need plenty of deep shade, cool fresh water, good ventilation, and protection from extreme heat.
Most pullets begin laying around 18–28 weeks of age, depending on breed, season, daylight, nutrition, and the individual bird. Some breeds naturally mature earlier or later than others.
We recommend introducing new pullets gradually instead of placing them directly into an established flock. A separate quarantine period followed by a see-but-don’t-touch introduction can help reduce stress and bullying.
Our available breeds change throughout the year and may include Ameraucanas, Marans, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, Cream Legbars, Orpingtons, Australorps, and other backyard favorites. Check IzaaksHappyHens.com for current and upcoming availability.
Before pickup, make sure you have a secure coop and run, fresh water, age-appropriate feed, shade, good ventilation, and predator protection ready to go. If you already have chickens, prepare a separate area for quarantine and gradual introductions before adding your new pullets to the flock.
We offer both vaccinated and unvaccinated pullets, with options varying by breed and batch. Some pullets may receive the Marek’s vaccine. Vaccination details will be included in the product listing whenever available.
Ordering, Pickup & Returns
Available chicks, pullets, and fertile eggs can be purchased directly through IzaaksHappyHens.com. During checkout, you’ll be able to select your available pickup date and time, and our exact pickup address will be provided during checkout. Availability varies by breed, age, and batch, so we recommend ordering early when you see something you want.
Because live birds and fertile eggs are reserved specifically for each customer, changes may be limited once an order is placed. If you need to cancel, please contact us as soon as possible.
For orders exceeding $100, a $25 cancellation fee may apply. The remaining balance will be refunded to the original payment method.
For biosecurity and animal health reasons, live birds cannot be returned once they leave our care. Fertile hatching eggs are also final sale due to their fragile nature and the many factors that can affect fertility and hatchability after pickup.
For chicks and pullets, please bring a secure, well-ventilated carrier, poultry crate, or sturdy box with ventilation holes that is appropriately sized for the number of birds you’re picking up. Avoid overcrowding, and make sure the container is secure enough that birds cannot escape during transport.
During warm weather, we also recommend having your vehicle cooled down before loading your birds and minimizing unnecessary stops on the way home.
Fertile eggs will be packaged in an egg carton for pickup.
